The numbers don’t bode well for marital fidelity. Recent figures suggest that more and more people are cheating on their spouses–almost the same percentage as unmarried people in steady relationships cheating on their partners. Attribute this to what you will, catching cheaters has become big business.
Aside from the well-known TV show Cheaters, there are hundreds of private investigation firms who specialize in discovering infidelity, scores of companies who sell tools for catching an unfaithful partner, from semen detection chemicals, to computer keystroke recorders. There are downloadable advice booklets, best selling full-length works on the topic and fifty or so online forums where people can exchange stories, support each other emotionally, or trade tips on learning the truth.
It is very easy for the average person to get lost amid this myriad of products and their respective promises to our the affair. One company is relying on the simplicity of their investigative tools, assuring those suspicious of infidelity that their approach will at least determine whether an affair is taking place to begin with. From there, they say, people can continue to pry.
CellularTrace.com owner James Lam explains:
“It is a waste of time and money to purchase equipment or hire a PI without being reasonably certain that something is going on. Our phone tracing–particularly cell phone tracing–proves that the person in question is talking to someone behind their partner’s back. For some people such knowledge is enough, for others it just marks to beginning on the investigation.”
The tracing he refers to is the identification of an unknown phone number. Suspicion is often caused by one partner behaving strangely or in secretive way. Often, they begin to be behave in a very private or sneaky manner. Leaving the room to take a phone call or not answering the call in front of the other person is indicative of infidelity, Lam says.
“If someone notices such behavior, or sees strange phone numbers on their partner’s cell phone or even on the landline caller ID, there is cause for concern. Frequent hang ups or harassing calls from persons unknown normally indicate that the other man or woman is behaving in a jealous and likely unstable manner.”
As important as identifying who your spouse is talking to, is choosing the company to conduct such investigations. Lam warns that the majority of sites offering such services return nothing but old, unverified info at best, and at worst, “results” they simply invent.
“Anyone claiming to have access to a ‘cell phone database’ or promising ‘instant results’ is simply lying. There is no cell phone database, and likely never will be. Only a real-time investigation can return the true information we provide, such as the name and address corresponding to a given cellular number.”
While it is obvious that a business owner is going to suggest their own product or service, there is no denying the fact that many online investigation companies promise the impossible. In the interest of truth we purchased investigations from three online search companies.
One returned no information, and only refunded a portion of our charges. The second emailed us incorrect information and refused to issue a refund. The third, CellularTrace.com delivered what they promised: fast, accurate info.
Lam advises people suspicious of infidelity, or anyone else who needs to identify a phone number, to ask questions before placing an order and make sure that each number is custom-researched and that no database information is used.
Also, some sites charge up to four times as much as others, so you should shop around for real investigations at the lowest price.
